Stop What You’re Doing and Get a Glass of Water

How ridiculous is this: I don’t drink enough water.

Me, the girl with persistent skin issues that are exacerbated by a lack of moisture.

Yeah, it kinda makes me laugh.

Why don’t I drink enough water? Well, I live in a country where water is plentiful, accessible and pure…so, um, I don’t know.

I know I need to drink water, and a lot of it, and yet, I’ll go days without getting my proper intake, only to find myself borderline dehydrated and my skin in a state of suffering. Sound familiar?

A lot of people don’t get the water they need. Instead, they forgo it for other beverages with more flavor and less goodness; like soda, coffee, or even ‘candy water’ (water filled with sugar). As a result, our bodies aren’t happy!

We NEED water. Pure, plain water, for a whole host of reasons, and if you’re dealing with acne, eczema or psoriasis, you probably need it even more than the average person.

So, if we’re not getting enough water on a daily basis, let’s look at why, and how we can fix it.

Your water isn’t convenient

OK, so maybe you don’t have to walk 10 miles to a water pump to get your H20, but still, if there’s a barrier in the way of your and your water, it’ll make you less likely to get it in you. Say you have to get up and walk to the other side of the building to get water, and you’ve only got a small cup to transport it in. You’re not going to get up every ten minutes for a refill, are you?

If your water source is far away from where you work or study every day, plan ahead with a large drink bottle to refill. You’ll have to get up less frequently, and you’d be amazed at how much you subconsciously swig while you’re working!

You don’t like the taste of the water

Water straight out of the tap in some cities is just nasty. London, I’m looking at you. I consume far less water when my only water source leaves an unpleasant taste in my mouth – so bottled water, a water filter jug in the fridge, or even some lemon wedges will help the medicine go down.

There’s something better on the table

Yes, I know, water isn’t the most exciting beverage out there. When it’s up against a nice apple juice or an ice cold Coke, it’s hard to go for plain old H20.

But, those other drinks pale in comparison when you stack up their health benefits with water – basically, they’ve got almost nothing to offer you! They might taste good, but they’re all wasted calories and tonnes of processed sugar. You definitely don’t need any of that! Water hydrates your body, helping you function at your best, and sends much-needed moisture direct to your skin. It’s really a no-brainer!

It’s too much liquid to get down

If you stick to the guidelines and aim for eight glasses of water per day, it can seem like A LOT of liquid. And, depending on your lifestyle, age, weight, etc, that amount might not be suitable for you. It’s important not to over-do it. But, it might be that you need to work up to it – trying to drink a little more each day until you get up to that eight-glass goal. It’s also a good idea to take the water in slowly too, so instead of gulping down a big glass all at once, take your drink bottle and sip all day.

SO – stop what you’re doing, and go get a glass of water! I’ll let you know how I go trying to get my intake up, and whether I see any improvement in my skin’s health…
